Our Team

Magdalena Galvan Easterling

Magdalena joined the Soggy Bottom Team in 2013 as part-time helper. It wasn't until January 2018 that she took on a full-time position.

She graduated from the University of West Alabama with an Integrated Marketing Communications Degree in the spring of 2016. While in college, she became a sister of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She held various positions and was very involved on and off campus. After college, she married her best friend Cody Easterling on June 24, 2017.

"I'm so excited to have joined Soggy Bottom Lodge as a full-time employee. I'm looking forward to the new opportunities and experience this place will bring."

Brandy Lewis

Brandy is a graduate of Shelton State Community College. She earned her cosmetology degree in 2004 and later went back to receive a degree in medical coding in 2017 from Herzing University.

Brandy has enjoyed the outdoors since being introduced by her daddy at a young age. Growing up on a farm with her parents and 3 sisters, they quickly learned about the “great outdoors”.  She enjoys hunting, fishing, and just being outside. She has 3 sisters that are nurse practioners and a brother that is going into dermatology, funny thing is she can't stand human blood without passing out, so that route wasn’t for her. When it comes to skinning a deer and cleaning birds, she's all for it.

Brandy started working at Soggy Bottom Lodge in March 2017, and she absolutely loves it.

"Soggy Bottom Lodge is such a beautiful place, and the staff is great! I just fell in love. I have a five year old son, Briar Gage. He keeps me on my feet at all times!"

Mark Pettus

Mark has been an avid hunter, fisherman, and conservationist all his life. His love for wildlife and the outdoors eventually lead him to a career of raising deer and managing wildlife habitat.

Apart from time in the woods Mark enjoys time with his wife Becky, four grown children, and three grandchildren.

Brandon Smith

Brandon started deer hunting at an early age like most of us in the south. He REALLY started hunting around the age of 10 when he was introduced to turkey and duck hunting by his step-father Paul. Deer hunting was a way for him to get in the outdoors but there was something about that distant gobble in a hardwood bottom that sparked a fire. This is a fire that still leaves us wondering what time he’ll show up to work most mornings in the spring!

Outside of the outdoors Brandon’s proudest achievement is raising two kids in the world we live in today! He says, “It is not an easy task and the lines are blurred but I am able to trust in One that is bigger than ALL the “stuff” that is around us! I enjoy working outdoors in God’s creation on a daily basis and striving to be more like Christ every day. Most days I fail miserably but that’s what is so great. He gives us grace and mercy. Trying to instill that truth in my kids is what I am proudest of.”

Brandon is married to Kelley and they have two children, Camilla and Crosby. Brandon’s hobbies include: boat rides with kids, duck and turkey hunting (or turkey missing), Sunday drives with the family, volunteering at Fairhaven Baptist Church, Kairos Prison Ministries.

We are blessed to have the opportunity to do this…thanks for checking us out and trusting us with your hunt of a lifetime.

 Jake Freeman

Jake was introduced to the outdoors at a early age. He recalls catching his first fish with his dad at the age of three. Jake enjoys introducing the great outdoors to those who have not had the opportunity to enjoy it. He also enjoys turkey and duck hunting in his free time.

Jake is a native of Demopolis, Alabama. He enjoys working with his dog, Nala and rooting for the Tide on Saturdays. Jake is a Demopolis High School graduate where he played football.

Jerry Smyly

Jerry grew up hunting and fishing here in Marengo County. He started with deer and turkeys and was introduced to waterfowl in his early teens. He considers deer, ducks, and turkeys his main quarry these days, but chases largemouth bass when there’s nothing to hunt.

He attended high school at Marengo Academy. His love of the outdoors led him to pursue a degree in Wildlife Sciences from Auburn University, where he graduated in fall of 2008. Jerry has experience in wildlife and habitat management and is a certified prescribed burn manager. He also writes a weekly outdoor column for a local newspaper.

Jerry is married to Anna Lindley Smyly and lives in nearby Linden. When not working he can usually be found in the woods or on the water somewhere here in West Alabama.

Randy Sanders

Randy also grew up hunting and fishing around this area. He still enjoys turkey hunting with his nephew. Randy is retired from the Marengo County Sheriffs Department and loves taking clients from Soggy Bottom hunting and fishing. Randy is one of our quail and deer guides and he loves dogs!!!

Randy is married to Jennifer and they have three children and two grandchildren.
